Choosing the right team of wedding vendors is so important if you want a smooth, stress-free wedding. In the 15 years that I have been in the wedding industry, I have seen some amazing contributions from vendors as well as some clients who have, sadly, had disappointing experiences.
So, how do you ensure that you hire the right professionals? Well, I think there are three main things you should consider.
1) Make sure to hire professionals. I know it can, at times, be tempting to hire a family member or a friend of a friend in order to save money but make sure that you have considered things like insurance and experience. If something goes wrong at your event, you want to make sure that the vendors are covered with business insurance and that they have the experience to know how to handle mishaps. If you work with someone who doesn’t have liability insurance, and there is an accident – that puts you on the line for any lawsuits or settlements.
You also want to take into consideration the experience and connections of the vendors that you work with. A couple years ago we were working with a client whose venue was closed just 3 days prior to their wedding. Luckily they had an amazing team of vendors including their planner, BreeAnn Gale of Pink Blossom Events who were able to arrange and handle everything so that the wedding went off seamlessly at an amazing venue just down the street.
2) Make sure that you hire wedding vendors that you feel a relational connection to. You want to feel comfortable on your wedding and all throughout the planning process. If you hire someone who you don’t connect with well, you will be frustrated and feel unnecessary stress.
3) And finally, make sure that you hire vendors who have a style that matches yours. If you try to have your vendor work outside of their typical style, you may not be happy with the results. Make sure to look through a vendor’s social medial pages, their blog and through examples of real weddings that they have done to get a feel for their style. Of course, you may not love everything that they have done but you should find some weddings that look like what you are hoping for – if not in style, then in overall feel.
